Commercial Fiction

Megan Albany
Shortlisted for the Banjo prize (Harper Collins) in 2020, Megan Albany is a proud Kalkadoon author with an amazingly witting, original and 'down-to-earth' writing style. Beyond Words Literary Agency recently secured Megan a two-book deal with Hachette Publishing. Megan's debut novel The Very Last List of Vivian Walker was released on the 9th February in 2022 and is receiving rave reviews from all over the country. This book was also released in the UK in August 2023, through Hachette UK.

Kate McCaffrey
Award-winning author Kate McCaffrey has published five Young Adult novels and a non-fiction Coded Marking and Feed-forward book for English teachers. Kate's debut adult crime fiction novel, Double Lives was published by Echo Publishing (Oct 2022). This very contemporary crime novel is making waves around the country.

Claire van Ryn
Claire van Ryn is a professional writer with over 16 years’ experience as a newspaper journalist and freelance writer. She has also worked as editor of several small print magazines and has a Bachelor of Arts with an English Literature major. debut novel 'Secrets of the Huon Wren' was released by Penguin Random House (Australia) in June 2023.

Donna M Cameron
Novelist, D.M. Cameron, is also an AWGIE nominated radio dramatist, award winning playwright and short film writer. Her debut novel, ‘Beneath the Mother Tree’, (2018 Midnight Sun) was hailed as ‘a masterful evocation of place’ by The Australian and listed as a top 2018 Australian fiction read.
Her latest manuscript, ‘The Rewilding’ will be published by Transit Lounge in March 2024.

Katrina Kell
Award-winning author Katrina Kell has published two young adult novels, short fiction, poetry, essays and journalism. In 2020, she was the winner of an Australian Society of Authors Award Mentorship for her unpublished novel manuscript So Everyone Sees Her Now inspired by the infamous French nude painting Chloé. Created in Paris in 1875, Chloé has graced the walls of Young and Jackson Hotel in Melbourne since 1909 and is now a much-loved cultural icon. This book was then picked up by Echo Publishing and will be released in late February with the new title, Chloé.

Liz Foster
Liz Foster was born and raised in England before arriving in Australia in 1991 on what turned out to be the longest gap year ever. Following a career in strategic marketing and copywriting, she began making stuff up seven years ago – editing the fifty-page Australian Tax Office guide was the tipping point.
Liz is passionate about smart and heartfelt book club fiction - creating character driven, page-turning, uplifting stories in quirky Australian settings, with big themes that resonate. She lives with her family in Sydney, peppering them endlessly with questions about plot scenarios in between listening to podcasts, reading out loud and boring the dog senseless.
Her first novel, The Good Woman’s Guide to Making Better Choices, was released in January 2024 with Affirm Press.

Kristen Dagg
Kristen is a television writer, producer and film editor who writes regularly about women’s issues for Kidspot, Mamamia, Babyology and other online publications.
She has been writing her whole life and is currently working on her second novel. She received an award for a short story in a Voices Of Women anthology and has had a short story published in ACE 111 - Arresting Contemporary Stories collection.

Joanna Morrison
Joanna Morrison’s debut novel The Ghost of Gracie Flynn (Fremantle Press, 2022) was shortlisted for the Hungerford Award in 2020 and received a WA creative development grant in 2021. She has a background in journalism and a Creative Writing PhD, and her short stories have appeared in various Australian journals and anthologies. Selected for QWC’s Publishable program in 2021, her second novel, Minx (Working Title), explores love and freedom, and what they cost.

Jessica Eve Diez
Jessica Eve Diez is an animal-loving bookworm and a renowned celebrity hair, makeup, and nail artist based in Sydney, Australia. She holds a Bachelor of Media from Macquarie University in Sydney, specialising in journalism, scriptwriting, and music composition for the screen. Her debut novel, ‘The Threads We Weave,’ is a captivating work of women's fiction that has drawn inspiration from her trips to Europe, her love of the arts, and her fascination with the human condition.

Alice Godwin
Alice Godwin was born in Nipaluna (Hobart) on the island Lutruwita (Tasmania), her family were European exiles from various countries from Turkey to Lithuania. She now lives with her family on Wangal land (Sydney).
She has had forty short stories published in magazines, anthologies, and literary journals in Australia, USA and UK. She won the Australian Horror Writers Assoc short story of the year (2008), Wyvern Publications UK YA short story competition and been shortlisted for the Irish Aeon Award. Her YA cyber fantasy novel, Slipstream was published by Hague Publishing in November 2022.

D.J Blackmore
An advocate for simple and sustainable living, D. J. Blackmore is a beekeeper and mother of five. Enjoying life with her Worimi husband and youngest child, the family make their home in the Wonnarua wine growing region of the Hunter Valley.
From milking cows and making cheese, she’s also a contributor to numerous short story anthologies. Long time hand-spinner D. J. Blackmore enjoys creating bespoke yarns at the wheel. If not, she’s endeavouring to spin words into gold. Because for as long as she can recall, she has been wrapped in the arms of stories.

Jo Madeline Moore
Jo Madeline Moore has a Bachelor of Arts degree (in Creative Writing) from Deakin University and a Diploma in Education from La Trobe University. Her astrology columns have been syndicated in newspapers and magazines around the world for the past 20 years & her articles have been published in magazines including Marie Clare, Cleo and The Australian Women’s Weekly; and her non-fiction book Love and Sex Signs - Venus, Mars and Astrology was published by Simon & Schuster.
In May 2024, Jo was accepted into the Kill Your Darlings Mentorship Program. For the following four months, Nikki Gemmell was her mentor as they worked on edits and revisions for Casanova Road Blues.

Joy Taylor
​Joy M Taylor was a high school teacher for twelve years, before qualifying as a lawyer. Today, she still practices exclusively as an Independent Children’s Lawyer for Legal Aid. She has written two other Young Adult novels and an adult romance. Someone Special is her third Young Adult romance novel. When not lawyering or writing, Joy can be found sketching, painting, personal training, practising yoga, volunteering in a second-hand bookshop and learning Italian. She lives in Perth, Western Australia, where she likes to keep her family in order!

Kevin Radley
After a long career in writing for television (including Neighbours) and teaching, Kevin turned his attention to writing novels. In 2019, he moved with his wife to the mid-north coast of New South Wales, wrote his second novel, a work of contemporary fiction, ‘Thundersong’. Kevin retired from teaching in 2021 to focus on writing his third novel, a work of historical fiction, ‘Rabbit Town’, which was then published by Contempo Publishing, in 2024.

Marjorie Kirk
Marjorie Kirk grew up in Northern Ireland and worked as a journalist there and in Canada before making her home in Australia. She has an honours degree from The University of Melbourne and spent nearly two decades as a secondary teacher of English, Media, History and Creative Writing in Australia. After twenty years in Melbourne, she is now based in Northern Tasmania where she has embarked on a Bachelor of Fine Arts – a late mid-life crisis, the fulfilment of a lifelong dream, or possibly both.
She was an early adopter of the Internet and co-founded a Rudolf Nureyev Facebook group which has almost 10,000 members from all parts of the world.
Marjorie’s first novel, The Spoils of Devotion, draws on all her experience and passions.

Ryan McLean
Ryan is a clinical exercise physiologist that leads a team of health professionals, providing care to veterans and individuals with disabilities. His experience working in this space provides a sound understanding to overcoming adversity, which is a fundamental aspect of his writing. He lives in South Australia with his wife and two young children.
Fostered Minds is Ryan’s debut novel, and he has started on his second.

Ron Destro
​Ron Destro is an award-winning writer and playwright. His debut novel, The Starre, the Moone, the Sunne (Contempo Publishing), whose audiobook is narrated by Sir Derek Jacobi, has won numerous awards, including Best New Author, Book of the Year Second Runner-Up, Hawthorne Prize finalist, and Best Audiobook of the Year. His play, Hiroshima, featuring an original score by Yoko Ono, received the Kennedy Center New American Play Award, His nonfiction book, The Shakespeare Masterclasses, has earned all 5-star reviews on Amazon. He is the artistic director of the New York and London-based Oxford Shakespeare Company, and has taught or lectured at various venues, such as Harvard University, Chautauqua Institution, and the City University of New York.

Roy Mumford
Over the decades, Roy has worked with addicts and has been confronted by his own addictive personality.
His debut novel is a fiction draws on this experience. He has also practised Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for 35 years and worked in drug and alcohol rehabilitation for over 20. BWLA are soucing a publisher for his debut novel right now.

Sally Stone
Sally Stone currently resides in the popular resort town of Queenstown, New Zealand with her husband and black Labrador. She is the published author or ‘Pandemic’ (Scholastic) a Middle Grade novel based on the 1918 Influenza epidemic for their ‘My Story’ series. This was republished last year. In 2024 Lake Press in Australia published Sally’s first picture book, titled ‘The Queen of Farts’ about a very smelly Queen!
Sally completed a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, then went on to study journalism and worked in Public Relations for many years before being accepted into a writing mentorship and several creative writing courses at Victoria University, in Wellington.

Sarah Speedie
Her debut picture book Mozzies vs Flies was released in November 2021 and her second picture book Meowster Chef was released in July 2022, both with Larrikin House. Mozzies vs Flies has also just been shortlisted for the Speech Pathology Australia, Book of the Year 2022 awards. Her latest picture book 'Boss Cat' will be published by Harper Collins in 2024.

Aleesah Darlison
Aleesah Darlison is an internationally published, award-winning Australian author of over 65 books for children. She is known for her books that champion the cause of animals and the environment and for her stories that empower children.

Anne Morgan
Anne is the author of twelve published children’s books, including the Captain Clawbeak junior novels with Random House Australia. She has won the Environment Award for Children’s Literature, and other writing awards. Her most recent picture book, The Way of the Weedy Seadragon, CSIRO Publishing, February 2021, is now going into reprint, and BWLA have just secured her a publishing deal with CSIRO for her new Children's book, Tardigrades, to be released in 2023.

Miranda Birthisel
Miranda Birthisel is a children’s author with a passion for fun stories that make children smile. As a mother and primary school teacher, picture books have always played an important part in her life. Miranda’s debut book ‘Say Freeze’, is due for release by Larrikin House in March 2023, and her second, 'The Santa Bilby' will be published by Scholastic in 2024.

Jennifer Ott
Jennifer Ott studied literature at Albright College in Reading, PA, then went on to study screenwriting at New York City’s Gotham Writers Workshop. Several of her screenplays were finalists at the Austin Film Festival. Later, Jennifer turned her attention to writing novels. Her historical romance Saying Goodbye won honorable mention for romance in the 2014 Best Beach Book competition and her literary fiction novella Edge of Civilization was highly recommended by the Vietnam Veterans of America.

Leearni Hamilton
Leearni Hamilton lives in Canberra with her husband and 10-month-old daughter, Niralee. She began writing short stories and poems in high school and her love affair with writing just grew from there. In 2014, she attended Fiona McIntosh’s Masterclass and her love of writing blossomed.
Leearni has written her memoir, ‘Where do I belong?’ and her first middle grade fiction novel, The temple of Malikye, which is the first in a series called, The Nimal Chronicles.
She is currently writing the second book in the Nimal Chronicles series.
